A Very, Very Quick Note
Tonight, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum combined to shoot 3-for-14 from three-point land, and the Celtics won anyway. "Comfortable" may not be the right word to describe the win, but after a hard-fought contest, the C's pulled away with about five minutes left, despite the star duo's poor three-point shooting.
I don't have the ability or patience to look up how the team has fared historically when the Jay's shoot that poorly from three, but my guess is very, very poorly. Tonight, it didn't hold them back from victory for two reasons:
- The rest of the team shot 15-for-30 from three, led by Derrick White (5-for-8), Sam Hauser (3-for-4), and Jrue Holiday (3-for-5).
- Both of the Jay's attempted more two-point field goals than three-point field goals.
Both are important, but I think for the team to win it all this season, the second bullet point needs to be true in every game, regardless of whether the threes are falling for the team's two stars.
In any case, impressive stuff, as was the Celtics' fourth-quarter defense. When they really locked in on Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell, that duo was not capable of getting to another gear to match the intensity.
